Delta Sig goes to BW3

Tonight, the men of Delta Sig took their Rushees to Buffalo Wild Wings. Our party of about 25 took up the whole wall of one of the dining room sections, from booth to booth across the room. Almost 150 chickens are wingless tonight because of us! Everyone had a great time eating their fill, shooting the breeze, and watching some sports on TV.

Delta Sig takes a stand against hazing

Delta Sig was featured in a 9/4/07 Daily Tar Heel article about the establishment of a national anti-hazing hotline. Our president, Matt Ilinitch, was quoted in the article:

“For some reason or another, fraternities have hazed with a feeling of immunity,” said Matt Ilinitch, president of the fraternity’s UNC chapter. “When we have a thing such as the hazing hot line, it’s so simple for somebody to tip off what these guys are doing. If fraternities are doing something like that, they’re definitely going to get caught.”

The full text of the article may be found here.

Bottom line, when we say no hazing, WE MEAN IT. We’re committed to building better men, not amusing ourselves with dumb stunts at someone else’s expense.

Bulls baseball, UNC football, Paintball events

The first 3 events of Rush for fall of 2007 have been incredible. Following the Fraternity and Sorority Life “Rush Kickoff” on Friday afternoon, Delta Sigs and friends went out to the Durham Bulls game and had a blast. Some good hitting Friday evening created an early lead for the Bulls which they held onto in order to win 7-3 against Charlotte.

Saturday morning several of the brothers worked really hard to get ready for the tailgate which was held in the Cardinal parking deck across from the hospital. We had such a good turnout of brothers, alumni, and rushes that we ran out of most of the food (which was alot by the way!). Several of the alumni joined the group after a morning round of golf at the local Finley course near the university. A buffet of burgers, hot dogs, and some awesome “spicy honey barbeque” chicken legs (courtesy of Adam Disher) were served and everyone had a great time. Luckily the cloud cover and breeze made it just cool enough so it was very comfortable. After walking to the stadium brothers, alumni, and friends alike watched Butch Davis and crew put on one of the most impressive games that Carolina football has seen in a while. The game came to an end at 37-14 in front of a sold-out, absolutely wild Tar Heel crowd. We can only look forward to the ECU game with high hopes and expectations.

On Sunday, after the remaining alumni in town graciously treated the brothers to breakfast at Time Out restaurant on Franklin Street, a group of about 15 brothers and rushes traveled to Gotcha paintball in Raleigh. Once there we proceeded to earn our war medals (bruises) by shooting our way to win the game. Everyone definitely had a great time and at this point I would think it’s safe to say that paintball will likely be another rush event for the Spring. Regardless of skill level, everyone came out either dirty, bruised, or paint-covered. For reference, if anyone would like proof of our “war medals”, don’t hesitate to contact Eddie or Sebastian (i think they probably got it the worst)!

All in all, having had 3 excellent days of events and fun with alumni and friends we look forward to not only the rush events still to come this week, but also to more planned events centered around brotherhood, alumni relations, and leadership. Hope to see everyone out this week or later on in the semester!
