Delta Sigma Phi

The sign says it all!

The student body of UNC is comprised mostly of overachieving high caliber scholars who excel in many different areas of academia and life. However there are people in our community who are not so fortunate. There are members of our beloved community who were born with or acquired developmental disabilities due to external circumstances, most far beyond their own control. Given this circumstance Tri Sigma, with the support of Delta Sigma Phi saw the need to assist a most noble cause.

Fortunately there are organizations dedicated to educating, advocating, and collaborating with those who have disabilities and their families to promote full participation in the local community. Delta Sig and Tri Sigma teamed up to help support the Arc of Orange County who provides this very service. Together we were able to proudly donate a few thousand dollars towards this thankless cause.

The Tri Sigma and Delta Sig Battle of the Bands event raised over $2000.00 for the Arc of Orange County (Advocacy and Services for Persons with Developmental Disabilities). It is with great pride that we stand united together in this accomplishment, and that we look forward to more success like this in the future.

We truly are as we were meant to be, a University of the People.

Rush was a huge success. Delta Sig welcomes 10 new pledges this fall! Thanks to Adam Disher, our Rush Chair, along with everyone else who planned and coordinated this semester’s rush events. Way to go!

Tonight, the men of Delta Sig took their Rushees to Buffalo Wild Wings. Our party of about 25 took up the whole wall of one of the dining room sections, from booth to booth across the room. Almost 150 chickens are wingless tonight because of us! Everyone had a great time eating their fill, shooting the breeze, and watching some sports on TV.

Last Night the Brothers and a large group of Rushers went to Balieys on 15-501. The group enjoyed pool, shuffle board, Golden Tee golf, and free food. We also celebrated Brother Disher’s 23rd birthday at Balieys, and enjoyed cake provided by the Brothers. Happy Birthday again Brother Disher!

We had a huge turn out with about 15 guests interested in pledging Delta Sig. We had a great time with everyone who came out and look forward to seeing you guys again!

Delta Sig was featured in a 9/4/07 Daily Tar Heel article about the establishment of a national anti-hazing hotline. Our president, Matt Ilinitch, was quoted in the article:

“For some reason or another, fraternities have hazed with a feeling of immunity,” said Matt Ilinitch, president of the fraternity’s UNC chapter. “When we have a thing such as the hazing hot line, it’s so simple for somebody to tip off what these guys are doing. If fraternities are doing something like that, they’re definitely going to get caught.”

Bottom line, when we say no hazing, WE MEAN IT. We’re committed to building better men, not amusing ourselves with dumb stunts at someone else’s expense.
